Agnis Shen Zhongmin’s lyrical debut follows Ming, a Shanghai woman who journeys to Xishuangbanna’s rubber plantation where her late father was sent during the Cultural Revolution. The old production house faces demolition to make way for a mining company and modern agricultural projects. Blending fiction, ethnography and travelogue, this hybrid moving film immerses us in family history and China’s vanishing traditions play out against the phenomenal landscapes of southwestern China, where flora and fauna become characters of their own.
