The latest work by Japanese director Shô Miyake, whose films such as Small, Slow But Steady (2022) and All the Long Nights (2024) enjoyed international acclaim, is based on two classic manga pieces by legendary cartoonist Yoshiharu Tsuge. Miyake managed to turn the material published more than fifty years ago into a film that is both contemporary and timeless. The neatly composed Academy ratio cinematography by Yuta Tsukinaga speaks more eloquently than words. With its slow, quiet, meditative tone, it shows us that the small events that happen by chance in our daily lives, and how we respond to them, shape our lives. The film won the Golden Leopard Award at the Locarno Film Festival in 2025.
